Senior Customs Import Specialist / International Logistics Manager (Part time, high paid long term contract) Our firm is looking for a highly skilled individual with 5-10 years of leadership in supporting the movement of specialized products across the Canadian/US and other international borders. In this part time role you will be required for approximately 5-15 hours per week and will be paid at a rate of $50-200 per hour depending on experience and achievement in the role. You will be responsible for determining the strategy on how to legally import the highly complicated products our client companies make including alcohol, herbals products, pharmaceuticals and exotic botanicals to various countries around the world. You will have a high familiarity with US Customs regulations, guidelines, and systems and will have strong familiarity with US FDA regulations and requirements. As you will work with an existing legal and brokerage team, you will not need in depth knowledge, certification or to personally clear products, but will require a very robust understanding of the entire process. Your primary focus will be developing and managing systems, protocols, and plans to reliability cut through red tape and import complexity to deliver products from one point, across borders, to another; in a compliant, reliable and on time manner. You will have a track record of well-developed vendor management skills and have a knack for persistence and creative solutions. You will have well developed communication skills, speak confidently and professionally (fluent English a must), and have a way of enlisting the support of others in overcoming your challenges. You will be very good at understanding how to maintain compliance in an environment that is extremely fast moving. As this role will be quite hands-on and also quite challenging, a more entrepreneurial self-driven personality is an important attribute. As details will be important to the success of the project, you must be a thorough, methodical thinker, who is extremely comfortable working with data and software including excel. Experience with various ERP/MRP applications a very strong plus. Finally, you possess extensive experience in international logistics of all kinds. From high volume consumer parcel (FedEx/UPS) to LCL/CL by air, sea and train. You have extensive logistics vendor management experience and have deep knowledge of the in’s and out’s of moving product around the world on time and at low cost. You will manage logistics vendors and providers to move product, but you must be able to find competent companies, manage to high quality service, and drive great pricing arrangements.
